Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Advances in multi-omics technologies—including genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics—are transforming our understanding of complex human diseases and enabling the discovery of next-generation biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis. Among these, cytokines and immune-related proteins play a central role in mediating inflammation, disease progression, and therapeutic response.

Non-communicable or “civilization diseases,” such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders, represent a major global health burden, accounting for over 80% of premature mortality. With the continued ageing of the population, the incidence of central nervous system disorders and malignancies is rapidly increasing, highlighting the urgent need for early detection strategies and predictive biomarkers.

This Special Issue focuses on the integration of multi-omics biomarker discovery with clinical applications, emphasizing cytokine profiling and molecular signatures that can identify disease risk in asymptomatic individuals, often years before clinical onset. The incorporation of such biomarkers into clinical practice has the potential to improve diagnostic accuracy, disease stratification, and personalized treatment decisions, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes.

Aim and Scope

This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for exploring:

  • The role of multi-omics biomarkers in human diseases
  • Integration of molecular discovery with clinical diagnostics
  • Cytokines as key mediators in disease mechanisms and progression
  • Development of predictive and prognostic models for clinical outcomes
  • Advances in precision medicine and personalized therapeutics

We invite original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and short communications that contribute to this rapidly evolving field.

Topics of Interest Include (but are not limited to):

  • Multi-omics approaches to biomarker discovery and validation
  • Cytokines as prognostic and predictive biomarkers
  • Cytokines as novel tumor markers in oncology
  • Multi-omics insights into neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation
  • Immune profiling and cytokines in infectious diseases (including COVID-19)
  • Biomarker-driven clinical diagnosis and outcome prediction
  • Cytokine-targeted therapeutic strategies and immunotherapy
  • Systems biology and integrated omics analysis in disease research
