The profession of a nurse, both in its independent meaning and in the form of an assistant, assistant to a doctor, of any orientation, was formed during all centuries of the development of medicine and, purposefully, during the last 150-200 years. In its modern form and meaning, it was formed under the influence of such famous heroines of the nursing movement as the English nurse, one of the symbols of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale (with her famous lamp/lamp), Clara Barton, an American nurse, a heroine of the American Civil War, Clara Maas, a heroine of the fight against yellow fever, and a number of other famous nurses in many countries of the world.
