This article summarizes the scientist's ethical ideas about hospitality.
Al-Ghazali deeply researched morality. He compiled an ethical collection on respect for parents, educating children, the need to study science and profession, the ethics of marriage, family, friendship, love, the ethics of eating and much more.
Al-Ghazali also expressed his opinion on hospitality. Hospitality is an ancient and genteelly tradition, the purpose of which is to know each other. The guest is a dear person. Should be invited to the quest a merciful, poor and needle are people. It is humane to invite friends and acquaintances at holidays and celebrations. Prophet Muhammad (s) said: “Feed others and may your words be beautiful. ... Let the faithful people eat your food and let the angels pray for you".
Al-Ghazali orders to go to visit, even if was invite in the evening, and may go up to one mile to visit the sick, up to two miles to the burial rites, up to three miles to guest and up to four miles to visit a believing brother. An invitation must not be rejected without a valid reason.
However, in a congregation where immorality is present, since half-naked women, shamelessly dancing and joking, swearing or haughtiness, a person should not go there, and if he suddenly has arrived there, he should leave immediately.
Al-Ghazzali emphasizes that should not go to the guest for eat. But it is permissible to go to a friend's house with the intention of eating. Even if the friend is not at home, eating his food is normal.
The scientist explains the ethics of the hospitality as follows: the host should politely greet the guests and sit at the end of the room, and relevant all guests equally, then set the table, and first put fruits, then greenery (salad) and sweets, treating guests with less food is not generosity, and more food is wastefulness; food must be brought to the guest immediately, but the dish must not be taken immediately; should to treat guests with delicious food, but should not borrow money for hospitality; at a modest table may also entertain friends, but entertaining guests for big money is wastefulness, since the Holy Quran says: "Eat and drink, and do not be wasteful ..." (7:31).
If a guest comes from a far, after eating, he needs to prepare a bed, show him the restroom, to serve him, before he sleeps, when he leaves, he must be escorted to a certain place.
Al-Ghazali explains the ethics of hospitality as follows: it is not necessary to go to a party with a valuable gift, must to go to the party at the appointed time, respectfully greet the audience; do not reach for the table until the owner, do not eat much and quickly if the owner asks to eat a few more snacks to his delight, do not talk unnecessarily, do not sit at the party for a long time and during departure, nothing should be taken from the table, except by the grace of the owner; you must ask permission to leave, during goodbye, person must invite the owner to his home and bless him.
Thus, hospitality is an expression of mutual respect and love. But a person should go on a visit with an invitation to social and cultural events. Going to the party unnecessarily is low and humiliating. Al-Ghazali's view on the ethics of hospitality is attention-grabbing. The ethical rules are the etiquette of hospitality, which must be known and followed by every prudent person.
