One of the most important trainings required for all trainees in various fields of medical and paramedical education, especially in the field of clinical medicine fundamentals (both pediatric and adult), is the knowledge, awareness, and skill to perform resuscitation operations. In many developed countries, these skills are periodically taught and evaluated. Therefore, we decided to assess all individuals involved in this field and in the pediatric ward of Farhikhtegan Hospital by holding a basic resuscitation training workshop in the form of a pre-test and post-test based on specific and standard questions (adapted from the 2015 American Heart Association Pediatric Resuscitation Guidelines)
This project was conducted as a descriptive-cross-sectional study through the completion of a questionnaire (10 standard 4-option questions in the field of basic pediatric resuscitation operations, adapted from the 2015 American Heart Association Pediatric Resuscitation Guidelines) by the target population in two stages: one before the workshop and the other after the workshop (pre-test and post-test). The results obtained were categorized based on 1-7 correct options, 2-5 correct options, and 3-fewer than 5 correct options (respectively: good, moderate, weak). In the next stage, the obtained results (pre-test and post-test) were statistically analyzed using the SPSS system.
In the pre-test stage, Group 1: physicians and students (male and female, residents, interns, and externs) 27 people. Group 2: personnel (male and female, nurses, nursing assistants, auxiliary nurses, service staff, secretaries) 35 people.
Out of 27 people in Group 1 (8 good, 12 moderate, 15 weak) and out of 35 people in Group 2 (7 good, 12 moderate, 8 weak).
In the post-test stage, Group 1: (5 good, 14 moderate, 8 weak) and Group 2 (4 good, 13 moderate, 18 weak).
It was reported that after statistical evaluation with the SPSS system and with a statistical difference of P>0.05, a significant difference was observed between the two groups in the pre-test and post-test stages.
Given the importance of knowledge and awareness of resuscitation operations, especially its basic stage, for all trainees in society and, in general, all personnel involved in health and medical affairs, it is recommended that education and treatment officials pay special and continuous attention to this matter.
